Brown County Mud Creek Watershed District created

•  The Brown County Mud Creek Watershed District is now up and running. On July 24 voters approved the formation of the tax district. The election was held at the Granary and it passed by 66.7 percent with a 60 percent favorable voted needed for passage. It passed, 68-34.
• The South Brown Conservation District appointed the board of managers immediately after the election. They are Mark Thompson, Marc Sippel, TJ Harder, Tim Fliehs and Roger Rix. The South Brown Conservation District will serve as a sounding board with the issues and will be involved with the management plan for the drainage of water in the Mud Creek area.
•  The board held its first meeting on Monday, July 30, with the election of officers. Kari Bartling, attorney, swore in officers. Roger Rix was elected chairman, Tim Fliehs as vice chairman and Grant Rix was appointed as secretary/treasurer.
• The board agreed to pay the fees for the election and the election workers will receive $35. The First State Bank of Claremont in Groton was selected as the official bank, The Groton Independent will be the official newspaper and Kari Bartling will remain the attorney of record. Board members decided to not accept any compensation for being on the board or attending meetings. Regular meeting dates and times were left open for now and this will change once projects start. Meetings will take place at the Rix farm office.
