The Aberdeen Doppler radar will undergo an upgrade to Dual Polarization. During the upgrade, radar data will be unavailable. This upgrade began yesterday and can take up to 14 days; however, crews have normally completed the upgrade ahead of schedule, taking closer to seven days to complete.
• Dual-Pol is the largest radar hardware upgrade since its deployment in the mid 1990s. Dual Polarization will provide new tools and information to meteorologists which will enhance decision making during severe weather.
