Steven McGovern, son of former SD senator, dies

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Steven McGovern, the son of former South Dakota senator George McGovern, has died. He was 60.
• A family statement released Saturday by Miller Funeral Home of Sioux Falls said Steven McGovern died Friday after a lengthy illness.
• The statement said McGovern died on his birthday in hospice care.
• His sister, Ann McGovern, said in the statement, "Steve had a long struggle with alcoholism. We will all miss him deeply, but are grateful that he is now at peace."
• Funeral arrangements are pending.


New app teaches kids Dakota language

• MARTY, S.D. (AP) -- The Marty Indian School on the Yankton Indian Reservation in South Dakota has released a new language app designed to teach children the Dakota language.
• The app is called Dakota One. It includes more than 700 sound files and images in 25 categories including animals, numbers and clothing.
• A news release from the school says the app is available to download for the iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone for $9.99 from the iTunes store.
• The Dakota language is spoken by the Dakota people of the Sioux tribes. It is closely related to the Lakota language.

Adviser says Romney would back Israeli strike to stop Iran's nuclear program

• JERUSALEM (AP) -- Mitt Romney would back an Israeli military strike against Iran aimed at preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear capability, a top foreign policy adviser said Sunday, outlining the aggressive posture the Republican presidential candidate will take toward Iran in a speech in Israel later in the day.
• Romney has said he has a "zero tolerance" policy toward Iran obtaining the capability to build a nuclear weapon.
