Mud Creek watershed is created

• Voters went to the polls on Tuesday where they voted on the fate of the newly proposed Brown County Mud Creek Watershed District. The election was held at the Granary and it passed by 66.7 percent with a 60 percent favorable voted needed for passage. It passed, 68-34.
• Immediately after the election, the South Brown Conservation District appointed the board of managers which are Mark Thompson, Marc Sippel, TJ Harder, Tim Fliehs and Roger Rix.
• According to Roger Rix, the first objective is to have an election of officers and appoint a secretary. The tax levy will be set at the first meeting to be held Monday, July 30, at 10 a.m. at Rix shop north of Groton. Rix said the proposed amount of the tax levy was $60,000.
• While the Mud Creek board will be independent, Rix said the South Brown Conservation District will still serve as a sounding board with the issues and will be involved with the management plan for the drainage of water in the Mud Creek area.
