Strong winds cause damage, injuries on Pine Ridge

• OGLALA, S.D. (AP) -- Strong winds that tore through the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation Saturday night damaged several homes in the Oglala community and sent residents to a local hospital for monitoring.
• Oglala Sioux Tribe spokeswoman Donna Salomon says the winds blew a number of trailers away. She says several people suffered injuries when the homes were

blown away and were sent to the Pine Ridge Indian Health Services Hospital for injuries. The extent of the injuries is unclear.
• Wayne Weston, the tribe's emergency manager, is surveying the damage. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
• Displaced families are staying with other family members or at the tribe's Prairie Wind Casino hotel.
• The tribe will be working with the Red Cross to provide the displaced families clothing, food and personal items.

SD man sentenced to 18 months for air gun threat

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota man has been sentenced to a year and a half in prison after threatening someone with an air pistol.
• Adam Poor Bear was charged in federal court with assault with a dangerous weapon.
• The U.S. attorney's office says the 23-year-old Poor Bear pushed the barrel of the air pistol up against the victim's head and indicated he was going to fire the trigger.
• Authorities say an air pistol is capable of causing injuries.

SD's drought task force schedules first meeting

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota's drought task force has scheduled its first meeting.
• Representatives from several government agencies have been named to the group, which will exchange and coordinate information about drought conditions.
