Southern Black Hills fire 15 percent contained

• CUSTER, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities say evacuation orders have been given to 242 homes because of a wildfire in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
• The Myrtle Fire near Pringle was reported Friday night to be about 7,500 acres, or about 12 square miles, and 15 percent contained.
• Officials say the American Red Cross has opened a shelter at Custer Middle School, and Hot Springs planned to set up an evacuation center Saturday at the Mueller Center.
• The fire has forced Wind Cave National Park to close.

• About 300 personnel are fighting the blaze, which started on Thursday afternoon.
• Custer County Emergency Coordinator Mike Carter says there is no anticipated threat to the town of Custer, "other than a little smoke now and then."

3-time Olympian Jim Spivey to speak at BHSU

• SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) -- A former Olympian is speaking to the public at Black Hills State University on the same day the 2012 Olympics starts in London.
• Three-time Olympian Jim Spivey will be speaking about his experiences as a runner and philosophy regarding how to achieve goals at the Friday event at the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall. It starts at 7 p.m.
• Spivey competed at the 1984, 1992 and 1996 Olympics, and has held head coaching positions at University of Chicago and Vanderbilt University.
• Tickets for the event are $10 and available at the door. Proceeds benefit the BHSU Cross Country program.

Minnesota man convicted of kidnapping SD woman

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A federal jury has convicted a Minnesota man accused of assaulting a South Dakota woman and locking her in a bedroom.
• The U.S. attorney's office says Robert Ford, of Pipestone, Minn., was found guilty Thursday of kidnapping by confinement. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
• The 37-year-old victim, a resident of Flandreau, reported that the 41-year-old
