1901: The temperature soared to 115 degrees in Ipswich, making it the hottest location in the state.

1951: From the southeast residential section of Watertown, an estimated F2 tornado moved east, passing near Kranzburg and Goodwin. One small home and several barns were destroyed. Damage was estimated at

$30,000.

1951: An F3 tornado tore across the southwest portion of Minneapolis from Lake Minnetonka to the international airport. At the airport 100 planes were damaged or destroyed. The anemometer at the NWS office measured a 100mph wind gust. The tornado was accompanied by powerful downbursts that caused widespread damage.

2002: Heavy rain and winds buffeted the leaders of the British Open in Muirfield, Scotland causing scores to soar and washing away Tiger Woods's dream of a golfing Grand Slam.
