Judge mulls assault evidence in SD murder case

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Prosecutors want to use a Sioux Falls man's assault conviction as evidence in a murder case against him.
• Jerome Ewing is accused of murder in the June 2011 beating death of Sudanese immigrant Geu Ayuel.
• Minnehaha County prosecutor Tom Hensley says Ewing also broke a man's skull in a 2007 assault after he had been drinking.
• The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/NSTjX9) that Hensley wants to use the conviction to show Ewing knew the damage he could cause by

beating someone on the head.
• Ewing's lawyer, Julie Hofer, says bringing up the previous conviction would unfairly prejudice the case.
• Ewing and another man are accused of kicking and punching Ayuel, smashing his head with a rock and trying to set his body afire.

DOT wants farmers to avoid irrigation overspray

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Department of Transportation is asking farmers to try to keep their field irrigation systems from spraying water onto state highways.
• The DOT says the overspray can endanger motorists by creating a slippery road surface and limiting visibility for drivers.
• Such conditions can be especially dangerous for motorcyclists with the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally approaching. The number of bikers on South Dakota roads will be much higher than normal for the next several weeks.
• The DOT says bikers may unexpectedly get hit with a spray of water, which can lead to potentially serious or fatal accidents.

Airshow: Same WW II aircraft, different Doolittle

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- An official at South Dakota State University will be taking to the air in a vintage World War II-era B-25 aircraft on Thursday at the Sioux Falls Airshow.
• Jim Doolittle, SDSU's associate vice president for research, will take to the air at 7 p.m. Doolittle's flight is noteworthy because his relative, Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, is famous for leading the Doolittle Raid in a similar aircraft over Japan in 1942.
