The Life of Doris Catherine Craig

• Memorial Service for Doris Catherine Craig, 92, of Aberdeen and formerly of Groton, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave NW, Aberdeen with the Reverend Janet Johnson officiating. A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center. Burial will take place at the Groton Union Cemetery.
• Visitation at the mortuary will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m., with family present 6-7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Friends may sign her online guestbook at

• Doris died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
• Doris Catherine Schornack was born August 26, 1919, in Groton, SD, to George E. and Olga (Senne) Schornack. She graduated from Groton High School in 1937, and served as secretary to the GHS Superintendent for one year. Doris then attended Marlette Beauty School in Aberdeen before working for two years as a beautician in Redfield and for three years at Nelson Beauty Shop in Groton. On May 4, 1941, she married Donald (Budd) Craig of Groton. While Budd was in the Army, they lived in Minnesota, Iowa and Delaware before returning to Groton where Doris stayed while Budd was overseas during WWII. Doris was very proud of Budd's military service. After the War, they moved to the farm northeast of Groton where they raised their three daughters. In 1960, the family moved into Groton, and Doris began employment with Wells Fargo Bank, formerly First National Bank, staying 23 years until retirement. Doris and Budd spent retirement years traveling to visit Army buddies and relatives. Budd passed away in 1987, and Doris continued to live in Groton until 1999 when she moved to Aberdeen. In 2011, she became a resident of Bethesda Nursing Home of Aberdeen.
• During her lifetime, Doris enjoyed hosting family dinners, entertaining friends, playing games and cards (especially Bridge and Tripoly) and fishing with relatives, for which she received several trophy angler awards. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. She was very creative
