Governor addresses city's driver exam wait times

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is authorizing overtime and extending the hours of operation at Sioux Falls driver exam stations to address long wait times.
• Staff shortages combined with the traditionally busy summer season have resulted in longer than normal wait times in South Dakota's largest city.
• Daugaard says the agency will institute aggressive hiring and training programs to fill vacancies, develop an advance scheduling system, add self-service kiosks at several offices and allow residents in immediate need of renewal to call the state for a six-month temporary license.

• The governor says the state has an obligation to bring wait times for applicants to acceptable levels. He says two hours is too long to wait.

Bodies of 4 NC Air National Guardsmen return home

• CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The bodies of four North Carolina Air National Guard airmen killed when their plane crashed while fighting a wildfire have been returned to Charlotte.
• Lt. Col. Paul Mikeal (MY'-kuhl); Maj. Joseph McCormick; Maj. Ryan David (dah-VEED'), and Senior Master Sgt. Robert Cannon all died July 1 when their C-130 crashed while fighting a wildfire in the South Dakota Black Hills. Two crewmen were injured.
• A plane carrying the remains from Dover Air Force Base landed Wednesday afternoon in Charlotte.
• A memorial service for the airmen was held Tuesday at the Charlotte base. Only the airmen's families, invited guests and members of the 145th Airlift Wing were allowed to attend the private service.
• North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue spoke at the memorial service and called the men heroes.

Wheat production estimates mixed in the Dakotas

• FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Wheat production is expected to be up in North Dakota this year but down in South Dakota.
• The U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest projections estimate North Dakota's spring wheat crop at 214 million bushels, up 28 percent over the year, and durum
