• Flags across South Dakota flew at half-staff Thursday to honor the airmen.
• Fire crews have fully contained the so-called Highlands Fire burning in southwest South Dakota and northeast Wyoming, and are closing in on full containment of the White Draw Fire in the Black Hills.
• The Highlands Fire destroyed five structures including two homes between Newcastle, Wyo., and Custer, S.D. It scorched about 400 acres. The White Draw Fire northeast of Edgemont has burned nearly 9,000 acres but remained at about 80

percent contained Thursday evening, the Great Plains Fire Information office said. Nearly 450 people continued working the fire, doing mop-up and strengthening containment lines.
• The Great Plains Fire Information office reduced its official size estimate of the Parker Peak Fire, from about 800 acres to 650 acres, after doing more accurate mapping. That fire was contained Tuesday night. It also was northeast of Edgemont, about seven miles from the White Draw Fire.
• "Our little town of Edgemont is very busy right now," longtime resident Jo Spencer told KELO-TV, adding that the fires have brought in more people than the county fair. "The grocery store is busy, and that's good for them, but said it has to be that way."

SD Supreme Court overturns award in fuel dispute

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A split South Dakota Supreme Court on Thursday overturned a lower court ruling that ordered the owner of two North Sioux City convenience stores to pay more than $925,000 in damages to a fuel supplier.
• The high court's 3-2 ruling said further proceedings are needed in circuit court to resolve disputed facts in the case.
• James R. Brown, who farms near Gettysburg, bought two convenience stores along Interstate 29 in North Sioux City in 2004, according to court documents. Brown agreed to buy fuel from Stern Oil Co. Inc. of Freeman, but notified the fuel supplier in May 2007 that he would no longer buy its fuel because its prices were so high he could not make any profit when he set prices at the pump at levels competitive with other gas stations.
• Stern Oil sued Brown for breach of contract. Brown filed a counterclaim alleging
