Teeners place second at Redfield Tourney

• Groton's Teener team placed second at the Redfield Teener Tournament held June 30 and July 1.
• Groton defeated Warner in the first game, 4-3.
• Alec Voss pitched for five innings, throwing 73 pitches for eight strike-outs, two walks, four hits and three runs. Mason Madsen pitched for two innings, throwing 30 pitches for four strike-outs, one walk and no hits or runs. Spencer Knecht had two doubles, Madsen and Wyatt Larson each had one double and Parker Rossow, Kasey Kurtz and Alec Voss each had one hit. Kurtz was the catcher.
• Groton then defeated Big Stone City, 13-6. Drew Planteen was the winning pitcher with 106 pitches for eight strike-outs, six walks, three hits and six runs. Kurtz was the catcher. Madsen and Rossow each had a double and a single, Knecht, Kurtz and Larson each had two singles and Voss and Doeden each had one hit.
• Tyndall/Tabor defeated Groton in the championship game, 7-4/ Rossow and Madsen were the pitchers and Kurtz was the catcher. Oleson, Knecht, Kurtz and Jeric Albrecht each had two hits and Madsen, Nick Dalchow and Larson eachhad one hit.

Flags at Half Staff For Guardsmen Killed In C-130 Crash

• PIERRE, S.D. - Gov.  Dennis Daugaard requests that all flags in South Dakota be flown at half-staff on Thursday, July 5, 2012, from 8 a.m. until sunset in honor of four Air National Guard members from North Carolina who died Sunday in the crash of a C-130 cargo plane during a Black Hills firefighting mission.
• The soldiers were members of the North Carolina Air National Guard's 145th Airlift Wing.

Power restored in Virginia

Charlie Garness Klauer reported from Blacksburg, Va., that power had finally been restored to their place late yesterday. It had been out since the storm hit area Friday.
