Pool offers relief from hot weather

• Summer has arrived and with it comes the warm humid season. The National Weather Service as issued a heat advisory for most of this week, with temperatures in the high 90's. One way to stay cool and have some fun too is to visit the Groton City Pool.
• "We are seeing a lot of activity at the pool," Karla Pasteur, one of the tri-pool managers, said. "On a hot day we are seeing over 200 people, we are averaging between 150 and 200 each day."
• This is the second year for the new pool and it is seeing a lot of use. About 150-200 people are visiting the pool each day. They offer a wide variety of fun things to do, including a diving board and a fun tiger slide for the younger swimmers.
• The pool is open daily from 1 to 5 and again from 7-9pm for open swimming. If you would like to try something different, the pool also offers lap swimming and water aerobics.  Lap swimming is available daily from 5pm to 5:45 and each morning, Monday thru Friday from 6am to 8am. Water aerobics is held Monday thru Friday from 5:45 to 6:30. If you are looking for something fun to do as a family, you can go to family swim on Saturday and Sunday evenings from 5:45 to 6:30 and every Friday Night is Fun Night from 6:30 to 9pm.
• "We have increased the hours for our lap swimming and water aerobics," Brenda Madsen, one of the tri-pool managers,, said. "We are seeing a lot of new people take advantage of these hours."
• Want to learn to swim better, or send your kids to lessons?  The second session of lessons is just ending, but the last session of swimming lessons will be the starting July 23 and running until Aug 3.
• The pool is also available for rent for private parties. An organization or private party can rent the pool for two hours for $100. This includes two lifeguards. This is a fun way to celebrate birthdays, family reunions or just a get-together.
• As a way to meet the people who provide the fun and safety at the pool we will be bringing you a weekly feature entitled "Meet the Lifeguards." We are starting off this week with the three tri-pool managers, Kami Lipp, Karla Pasteur and Brenda Madsen. They are responsible for the daily running of the pool and overseeing the lifeguards.
• The pool tri-managers are featured on the next page.
