Sturgis bar says it will operate under new name

• STURGIS, S.D. (AP) -- The owner of a Sturgis bar being sued by a motorcycle magazine publisher for dropping the Easyriders brand says it will continue as Sturgis Saloon Company.
• Scott Upton of Fargo, N.D.-based KSLB&D Inc. says the former Easyriders Saloon & Steakhouse is no longer associated with that brand.
• He says KSLB&D will also operate a Hooters during the 2012 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in a spot between its saloon and the former Broken Spoke, a business it acquired and renamed Sickies Garage.
• The suit filed by Paisano Publications LLC in Los Angeles last week accuses the

bar of breaching contract by covering up its Easyriders logos and acting as their own sales agent for vendor space.
• Upton says the company denies the allegations in Paisano's complaint and will seek all recoverable damages.

Deployment ceremony set for SD Guard soldiers

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A deployment ceremony is scheduled next week for South Dakota National Guard soldiers heading to the Middle East.
• The ceremony for the 14 soldiers with the 927th Engineer Detachment is July 6 at the Multi-Cultural Center in Sioux Falls. The group is deploying for nine months of duty in Kuwait after final training at Fort Bliss, Texas.
• The unit's mission will be to help with engineering projects.

Syphilis cases reported in eastern South Dakota

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota health officials are asking doctors to be alert for syphilis cases after reports of 10 cases in the eastern part of the state.
• State Epidemiologist Lon Kightlinger says South Dakota's last outbreak of the disease was in 2006 and 2007. He says last year there were no cases, so the rash of cases this year is "concerning."
• Syphilis is a bacterial infection that is primarily transmitted through sexual activity.
