NDSU alum, USD coach do well at US Olympic Trials

• FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A former North Dakota State University track standout has qualified for the Olympics, while a University of South Dakota assistant track coach is a step away from qualifying.
• Amanda Smock won the triple jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Monday and qualified for the London Summer Games. Smock's last name was

Thieschafer when she competed for NDSU and won three NCAA Division II national titles in the early 2000s.
• USD's Derek Miles has advanced to Thursday's pole vault finals at the trials, where the top three finishers will advance. He is seeking a third trip to the Olympics. He competed in 2004 and 2008, narrowly missing out on a medal four years ago.

3 arrested in business burglaries in 3 SD towns

• HURON, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities have arrested three people in a string of business burglaries in Huron, Woonsocket and Alpena.
• The Huron Plainsman reports that two men from Wessington Springs face burglary and attempted burglary counts, and a Huron woman faces drug charges. Police say more charges might be filed in the case.
• KOKK radio reports that bond has been set at $10,000 for 35-year-old Joseph Gregg and a total of $15,000 in two counties for 32-year-old Craig Stolz. Twenty-seven-year-old Emily Montoya has been released on a personal recognizance bond.
• Huron police received five separate reports Friday from local businesses of break-ins or attempted break-ins. Authorities say surveillance video from the businesses allegedly links the suspects to additional burglaries in Alpena and Woonsocket.
• Police say some of the stolen property has been recovered.
