Hot weather sets records in the Dakotas

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Hot weather that blanketed North Dakota and South Dakota led to some weather records.
• The National Weather Service says several cities in the western Dakotas set high temperature records on Tuesday, from Dickinson in North Dakota to East Rapid City in South Dakota.
• Temperatures were in the 90s and the triple digits in the two states. The mercury climbed to 110 degrees in Buffalo, S.D.
• A slight cool-down was in store Wednesday, with high temperatures forecast in

the 80s and 90s in South Dakota and the 70s and 80s in North Dakota.

12 homes evacuated due to South Dakota forest fire

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Twelve homes near Rapid City have been evacuated due to a forest fire.
• The Dakota Fire is burning near the Dakota Point Recreation Area at Sheridan Lake, about 15 miles southwest of Rapid City. Authorities say it was caused by a person in the area on Tuesday and is about 75 acres in size. Crews are battling it on the ground and in the air.
• Sheridan Lake Road has been closed form the Spring Creek Picnic Area to the North Boat Launch Area.

North Dakota ag commish to lead regional group

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring will lead a regional group of his peers.
• Goehring this week was elected president of the Midwest Association of State Departments of Agriculture during the group's annual meeting in Indianapolis. He succeeds Joe Kelsay, his counterpart in Indiana.
• Goehring says he looks forward to leading a discussion on policy issues that affect Midwestern farmers and ranchers, including an increasing need for farm labor.
• States that belong to the association are both Dakotas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin. Next year's annual meeting will be in the southwest North Dakota tourist town of Medora.
