Suspect in Sioux Falls bank robbery arrested

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Police have arrested a suspect in an armed robbery at a Sioux Falls bank.
• The 21-year-old Sioux Falls man was arrested on a first-degree robbery charge Monday, the same day a man with a handgun approached a female employee outside the entrance of the Great Western Bank shortly before the bank opened. He demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The employee was not hurt.
• Authorities say the arrest came after a joint investigation conducted by Sioux

Falls police and the FBI. Details were not immediately released.

Parts of Dakotas in for triple-digit temperatures

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Much of the Dakotas could be in for the hottest day so far this year, with temperatures in some areas soaring into the triple digits.
• National Weather Service forecasts show that temperatures could reach 105 degrees or higher in southwest North Dakota and parts of western and south central South Dakota. The agency has issued a heat advisory for much of the two states.
• The weather service also has issued a red flag warning indicating dangerous wildfire conditions in western South Dakota and southwestern North Dakota.
• Crews battling a forest fire near Spearfish in western South Dakota's Black Hills tell KEVN-TV that they have geared up for a challenging day. The Crow Peak Fire was sparked by lightning over the weekend.

ND, SD add law enforcement positions through grant

• FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Officials say a new federal grant that aims to hire veterans for law enforcement should fund eight officers in North Dakota and South Dakota.
• The U.S. Department of Justice says the $111-million grant should create more than 600 new law enforcement positions around the country and save about 200 jobs either lost or in jeopardy because of budget cuts.
• The Community Oriented Policing Services program, or COPS, will provide for two officers in Grand Forks, one in Fargo, two in Sioux Falls, S.D., and three troopers for the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
• Officials say the specific grants were based on financial need and local crime rate.
