1947: The greatest short-term rainfall in the world was 12 inches of rain in 42 minutes in Holt, MO.

1981: A young woman from Lubbock, TX was struck by lightning. The bolt struck just above her right shoulder near her neck, and passed right to left through her body, causing her tennis shoes to explode and lifting her 24 inches into the air.

2003: A hailstone 18.75 inches in circumference fell on Aurora, NE. It is the largest hailstone (by circumference) ever recorded in the U.S.
