School looks at replacing storage building

• More improvements may be made at the Groton football/track field, but improvements at the elementary gym are on hold. That was the decision of the Groton School Board after some mild discussion during Monday's board meeting.
• The storage shed/concession stand at the field is in poor shape.
• "The building is old and deteriorating," board member and grounds committee member Steve Smith said. "The floor is rotting and the building needs to be replaced."
• The building currently holds the irrigation system controls and pump as well as the electrical panel for the lights. The plans call for a replacement of the building whether then repair it.
• "I really feel the cost of replacement well be better than the cost of fixing up what needs to be fixed," Groton School Superintendent Laura Schuster said.
• The board will contact Don Donley, industrial arts teacher, about doing the project. Schuster will also look more into the cost of the material for a 10x20 building. Several options where also discussed, such as having the building on skids or a floating concrete pad, wood siding vs tin siding and tin roof vs a shingled roof.
• Meanwhile the planned improvements to the elementary gym are being placed on hold. The school had hoped to help relieve some of the pressure on the high school gym and arena by placing adjustable basketball boards in the elementary gym. When the new boards were to be installed, it was realized that the new boards stuck out further, reducing the size of the already small gym, by several feet. It was also learned that the current brackets may not hold the additional weight of the new boards. The estimated cost of the new brackets and boards, for two baskets, would
