Romney sweeps 5 GOP presidential primaries

• WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mitt Romney has won the California Republican presidential primary, completing a sweep of contests in five states.
• Romney also won presidential primaries Tuesday in New Jersey, South Dakota, New Mexico and Montana.
• The victories add to a delegate total that already exceeds the number needed to win the nomination. Romney has 1,398 delegates. He needs 1,144 to win the Republican nomination at the party's national convention in August.
• Romney will take on Democrat Barack Obama in the fall.
• A total of 264 delegates are at stake in Tuesday's contests -- including 169 in California -- and Romney has a chance to win them all.
• After Tuesday, only one Republican presidential primary remains, in Utah on June 26.

SD man fined for speeding says video system flawed

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A South Dakota man is appealing a speeding ticket he received when he was caught on camera while driving through Sioux City, Iowa.
• KCAU-TV reports (http://bit.ly/MBbuWP) that Steve Thompson, of Brandon, was fined $168 when the speed camera recorded him driving 68 mph in a 55 mph zone.
• Thompson told a judge in Sioux City Tuesday that speed cameras have flaws and said he wasn't speeding.
• Sioux City Police Sgt. William Melville testified that the cameras are accurate and said he's never had any video violations thrown out.

Sheriff: SD man dies in road construction accident

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities say a Rapid City man is dead after an accident Tuesday morning involving road construction equipment.
• The Pennington County Sheriff's Office says 68-year-old Robert Gilland died when a 12-ton blacktop paver he was operating rolled over and landed on him.
• The accident happened about 11:40 a.m.
• No further details were made available.
