SD city offers loans to spur rental rehabilitation

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Landlords in an area of South Dakota's largest city have been offered an incentive to spruce up their buildings.
• The Pettigrew Heights rental rehabilitation project in Sioux Falls allows property owners up to $25,000 for exterior repairs through a low interest loan. The loan carries no cost and there is no interest for six months. Property owners have five years to pay it back.

• City spokesman Brent Tucker says Pettigrew Heights has about 250 buildings, totaling about 700 rental units. Tucker says the neighborhood was selected for the pilot project because many dwellings are in need of repair.
• Paul Larson is the first landlord to sign up for the project. He tells the Sioux Falls Argus Leader (http://argusne.ws/JDYoRI) that it's a good deal compared to taking out a mortgage.
