place about 7:30 a.m. while the victim was playing basketball on a river greenway.
• Authorities say the dogs were discovered later and started to pursue someone on a bike path. Police intervened and one of the pit bulls was shot when it went after an officer.
• The dog was located and transported to a vet.
• Police say the owners of the dogs have been contacted. No other details were available.

Nearly 7,000 people sign up for Crazy Horse hike

• CRAZY HORSE, S.D. (AP) -- Officials say nearly 7,000 people signed up Saturday for a close-up view of South Dakota's Crazy Horse Memorial.

• The Crazy Horse Volksmarch allows people to walk to the top of a mountain that's being turned into a sculpture of Oglala Lakota warrior Crazy Horse sitting on a horse. Work on the sculpture began in 1948.
• The total distance is 6.2 miles and takes between two and four hours to complete. The two-day event typically draws up to 10,000 walkers, who are required to register for the hike.
• It's the 27th year of the event, which is the only time the public is allowed on
