• BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK, S.D. (AP) -- The country's first tribal national park is continuing to move closer to fruition.
• Oglala Sioux tribal and National Park Service officials are expected to come together Saturday to sign a record of decision on a general management plan for the South Unit of the Badlands National Park.
• Once the signing is complete, the two parties can start crafting legislation creat

ing the first tribal national park. Congress would still be required to approve the park.
• The South Unit land is owned by the Oglala Sioux tribe and lies entirely within the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
• The land was taken from the tribe by the federal government in the 1940s for a practice bombing range and is now managed by the park service as part of the Badlands
