1990: A small F0 tornado blew over two mobile homes on the north side of Groton. Numerous trees were either blown down or lost limbs. Also strong winds of 65 mph occurred 5 miles south and 1 mile east of Mellette.

1903: The Gainesville (GA) Cotton Mill was hit by an F4 tornado. Children working on the top floor were killed by debris and by being flung five stories down to the ground. Other employees escaping the building were killed by falling debris. A total of about 100 people lost their lives in the area affected by the tornado.

1907: South America's coldest temperature was recorded at Sarmiento, Argentina, at -27 degrees. That's the same as Frankfort, KY's all-time record low.

1999: An MD-82 aircraft ran off the runway, broke up, and caught fire in Little Rock, AR. It occurred as the plane touched down. There were thunderstorms with winds gusting to 50 mph in the area. One of the six crewmembers and eight of the 139 passengers were killed.
