Washington is ignoring Islamabad's demands it halt the strikes, Pakistani officials said Monday.
• The uptick comes amid fractured relations between Pakistan and the United States over Islamabad's refusal to reopen U.S and NATO supply lines to neighboring Afghanistan that have been blocked since November. It indicates Washington's resolve to press ahead with the attacks, which have taken out many al-Qaida leaders close to the border since 2007.
• Five missiles hit a vehicle and a house in Makeene Kili village close to the town of Mir Ali late Sunday, the officials said. The identities were not known, but the region is home to al-Qaida militants and insurgents fighting in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
• They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to give their names to the media.
• The attack late Sunday in North Waziristan was the fourth in less than a week.

Police say 5-time boxing champion Johnny Tapia found dead at his Albuquerque home

• ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- Johnny Tapia, the five-time boxing champion whose turbulent career was marked by cocaine addiction, alcohol, depression and run-ins with the law, was found dead Sunday at his Albuquerque home. He was 45.
• Authorities were called to the house at about 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, spokesman Robert Gibbs said. The death didn't appear to be suspicious, he said.
• Tapia won five championships in three weight classes, winning the WBA bantamweight title, the IBF and WBO junior bantamweight titles and the IBF featherweight belt.
• He was regarded as the consummate underdog by his fans. The more trouble he found outside the ring -- including several stints in jail -- the more they rallied around him.
• In a 1990s-era feud with fellow Albuquerque boxer and former world champion Danny Romero, Tapia's fans anointed him with the slang Spanish title of "Burque's Best."
