The Life of Merlyn Olson

• The funeral for Merlyn Olson, 98, of Claremont was held. Saturday, May 26 at the United Methodist Church.
• Merlyn died May 21, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Groton. 
• Merlyn Adeline was born on September 25, 1913 to Archie and Cecelia (Oswood) Terry on the Terry farm, west of Claremont.  She attended school in Claremont and after graduation; she helped her parents on the farm until 1935.  Merlyn then went to work for the US Postal Service.  In 1938, she was appointed Postmaster of Claremont and served there for 16 years.

• On March 23, 1941 she married Clarion Olson of Langford.  The couple farmed 1 ½ miles east of Claremont and raised five children.  They moved into Claremont in 1987 and Merlyn resided there until 2011, when she became a resident of Golden Living Center.
• Merlyn was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Claremont Community Club, Cheerful Chimes Extension Club and a Claremont Bowling League.  She was very active in celebrations that Claremont had including, the Jubilee, School reunions, the Centennial and had helped with many church dinners.  Merlyn enjoyed playing cards, games and bowling.
• Celebrating her life are her children; Terry Olson of Red Wing, Minnesota, David

Olson of Chamberlain, Merlene (Thomas) Dunlavy of Claremont, Darlene (Lyle) Tunheim of Andover, nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. 
• Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister, Hazel, her husband, her son, Rev. Robert Olson and one grandson, Brandy.
• Casketbearers were her grandchildren.
