4 Hurley High grads hope to land on television

• HURLEY, S.D. (AP) -- The Hurley High School seniors hope their commencement ceremony wasn't their last appearance together.
• The four graduates -- who joke they can fit their entire class into one vehicle -- are promoting themselves for a spot on national television. So far, they have received one sign of interest from a late-night host.
• "We sent letters and

emails. We contacted late night shows, morning shows, everything," said senior Haley Jorgensen. "We got a call back from one of Jay Leno's writers and producers (on "The Tonight Show"). If something opened up, they would give us a call."
• Eight miles to the south, the Viborg High School seniors enjoyed a playful moment -- climbing and sitting around the sign with the former Viking mascot.
• "Do you like this pose?" one of the boys asked a bystander of the sprawling scene.
• The Viking represents a piece of Viborg history. The mascot, along with Hurley's Bulldogs, have been replaced in recent years by the Cougar for the Viborg-Hurley sports cooperative.
• With their walk down the aisle this month, the Viborg and Hurley seniors made more history. They became the final graduating classes from their respective schools, which merge July 1 to form the Viborg-Hurley district.
• Jerry Joachim, superintendent for both districts, will fill the same role with Viborg-
