Ag department to inventory trees in Groton

• Groton was selected as one of 40 communities in South Dakota where the South Dakota Department of Agriculture will do a tree inventory. The purpose of the inventory is to examine any potential diseases or bugs that may be affecting trees. The project will be done over the next two summers.
• The city is still waiting on the Safe Routes to School Grant.
• The city library will remain intact as the council approved the appointment of five members to the library board. They are Dodie Martin, Rose Waage, Patty Tastad, Marian Raines and Andrea Bahr.
• Councilman Scott Hanlon asked about boulevard trees at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel lot. There are plans to build a new funeral home and they were given the blessings to have the boulevard trees removed and they can put an eight-foot sidewalk next to the curb since it is in a commercial zoned area.
• A stop sign requested by the United Methodist Church council was turned down. They wanted a stop sign on 10th Avenue facing First Street so they could preserve

the trees that are growing at the intersection. A tree trimming party will be held Wednesday evening.
• Two petitions were accepted with June 18 hearing dates. One is to vacate the alley north of Pheasant Ridge Apartments and the other is to vacate Hayes
