nett gave Hirsch credit for time served, essentially reducing her sentence to 33 years. She will be eligible for parole after serving half the sentence.
• Defense attorneys maintained that Hirsch took out a handgun because she felt threatened by her husband, and that he made a sudden move off a bed and startled her, causing the gun to go off.
• But Barnett said during the sentencing hearing that lasted more than hour that the evidence showed Hirsch shot her husband in the back of

the head while he slept. He acknowledged she likely had been verbally and physically abused but said it did not give her the right to take the law into her own hands.

SD man indicted in slaying of pregnant woman

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A man hospitalized in Rapid City has been indicted in the stabbing death of a pregnant woman.
• The charges against Michael Young include first-degree murder and fetal homicide. He has not yet been arrested but is under 24-hour surveillance in the hospital.
• The 30-year-old Young allegedly killed 30-year-old Morgan Myers April 26 in a Walmart parking lot in Rapid City, then stabbed himself. Authorities say Myers had gotten a protection order against Young after a romantic involvement.
• Officials say Young might remain in the hospital for several more weeks.
