Hilpert retiring from Delta State

• CLEVELAND, Miss. (AP) -- Delta State University President John M. Hilpert will retire Dec. 31 after nine years at the helm of the school.
• The 64-year-old Hilpert made the announcement in a statement released by the school Thursday.
• Hilpert says he will stay until a new president is named.
• Hilpert was named Delta State's seventh president Sept. 1, 2003. He came to

DSU after six years as president of Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.
• In a 35-year career in higher education administration, Hilpert also has been executive vice president and acting president of the University of South Dakota and as a vice president of Thiel College in Pennsylvania and executive assistant to the president of Suomi College -- now Finlandia University -- in Michigan.
