Academic Excellence recognition with Governor Daugaard

• Marah Smith, senior at Groton Area High School, has been selected as an Associated School Board academic top 1% of 2012 graduating seniors award recipient.  Students from around the state, along with their parents and a school representative, were invited to attend Academic Excellence Recognition Day in April in Pierre. 

• Marah was selected based on academic standing, college entrance scores, choice of course work, and academic awards.  As the school's award recipient she receives a certificate and pin.
• Marah has been involved in FCCLA, FCA, debate, concert and jazz band and concert piano.  She was selected as 2010 Community Volunteer of the year, National Honors Society, FCCLA District top speaker, Girls State Nationalist Nominee for the PUC, 4.0 honor roll, and Student of the Month.  Marah volunteers as a Catholic Diocese youth counselor, CCD teacher, skating instructor, as skating warming house volunteer and for FCCLA projects.  Marah is the daughter of Steve and Carol Smith of Groton.  She plans to attend USD and major in pre-medicine.
