the Safe Route to School program. There is where sidewalks will be installed in certain parts of town to allow students to walk to and from school on sidewalks instead of on the streets. Schuster said it was asked if a smaller amount of funds would be accepted for the project and the city has said that it would accept less money than was requested to help secure the grant.
• It was reported in the Principal's reports that Erica Schuster and Gabriella Tinglund each scored the highest statewide score on the National Spanish Exam and each earned a $50 cash

• Under consideration by the South Dakota High School Activities Association is an issue of open enrollment. Districts are voting to have a one-year waiting period before the student could participate in varsity sports. The one-year waiting period begins on the date of the open enrollment. Groton voted for this change.
• Th board hired Mike Becker as the head boys soccer coach and Duane Kavanaugh as the head girls soccer coach for the upcoming school year.  In addition, Karen Ibison resigned, as the MS/HS special needs para-professional and Kara Paulson as an elementary special needs para-professional.
• The following budget cuts were re-instated for the upcoming school year: add five days to the superintendent, business manager, MS/HS principal, elementary principal, business office clerical, MS/HS secretary and elementary secretary; two days to the school nurse's work agreement; one optional staff development opportunity per staff member with administrative discretion; organizational dues for TIE and ASCD; and one morning of summer library at the elementary school (Elementary PAC will also fund one morning of summer library at the elementary school).
• During the preliminary budget report, it was mentioned that the OST program has gone from making money to breaking even to running in the red this year. There is expected to be a price increase next year to $2.50 an hour, $25 a week and $100 month, which includes summer OST.
• The valuations of the district will increase from $598 million in 2012 to $662 million in 2013.
