Groton takes second at NSU Math Contest

• Thirty students in grades eight through twelve from the Groton Area School District participated in the 59th Annual NSU Mathematics Contest held Wednesday, April 18, 2012, on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  They were among 685 students representing 35 schools in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota, who participated in the event and tested in four divisions:  Elementary Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, and Senior Math.  Out of the 170 students taking the Elementary Algebra test, Jasmine Schaller, Natalia Dohman, and Margaretha Tinglund received certificates of honorable mention.  Of the 194 students taking the Geometry test, Jacob Milbrandt and Haley Unzen received certificates of honorable mention.
• As a school, Groton received the second place award in the Class AA/A divi

sion.  To determine school rank, the highest score from each school in each of the four divisions was taken to compute each school's result.
