UMW NEWS

• The Groton UMW met for their monthly meeting on April 18th at 2 p.m.  The interesting and informative program was given by Carna Atherton-Pray.  Her talk included a power point presentation on services provided by Avera and concluded with an emphasis on health issues that are of concern to women.
• The business meeting was called to order by President Gloria Pharis with fourteen members reciting the Purpose.  Doris Zoellner read devotions from Ephesians on forgiveness.  The minutes and financial report were read and approved.   A bill for pork loin used at Focus Days was presented.  Clare Brotherton made a motion to pay it and Marlys Rodman seconded it and all present approved.
• Old business began with a review of Focus Days which was hosted by the Groton Unit.  There were 38 people in attendance. The program was presented by Pat Siefken and Sue Fritz and was not only interesting, but also moved along in an efficient and effective manner.  Delicious pork loin sandwiches and salads were served at noon.  May Breakfast plans are being finalized and will be held on May 2.  The group was reminded to bring 9 by 13 pans by April 26th.  Sign-up sheets were sent around for workers on April 29th -May 2.  The only committee report was from Education and Interpretation with Marlys Rodman giving a reminder to have all grocery receipts in by May 1st.
• During new business, the members discussed donating to the post prom party.  Clare Brotherton made a motion to donate a monetary amount and Pat Dahlquist seconded the motion and all agreed.  A sigh-up sheet was passed around for Conde's Friendship Night on April 25th.  The event begins at 6:45 and ladies attending were to meet at the church prior to 6 p.m. to car pool.
• Lunch was served by Gloria Pharis and Sharon Wheeting.  The next meeting will

be May 16th at 2 p.m. with Clare Brotherton and Jolene Townsend giving the program on "Radical Hospitality."  Hostesses will be Jeanne Wanous and Carol Strom.
