SD lawmakers looks into veterinarian shortage

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A state legislative panel is looking into a shortage of veterinarians in South Dakota.
• State Veterinarian Dustin Oedekoven (OH'-dih-koh-vihn) is scheduled to meet Tuesday with the Legislature's Government Operations and Audit Committee.
• The panel has asked Oedekoven to discuss which areas of the state have shortages of large-animal veterinarians. The committee also wants to look into incentive programs that are in place to help South Dakota students attend veterinary schools in other states and then return to South Dakota to practice.

Hearing Tuesday in old grudge shooting case

• MADISON, S.D. (AP) -- A pretrial motions hearing is scheduled Tuesday in the case of a 73-year-old Watertown man accused of fatally shooting his long-ago classmate.
• Carl Ericsson is charged with first-degree murder in the Jan. 31 killing of retired Madison High School teacher and track coach Norman Johnson.
