kindergarten classroom and there are 23 eager youngsters wanting to learn. Invariably, the first thing in the morning I get a hug from someone. Here are just a few of the things that I do: Listen to the children read. (This is one of the most rewarding things that I do!) Help youngsters with their school work. Sometimes the teacher has me read to the students. That is fun! I help put together their homework folders, staple together booklets and cut and glue things for the teacher that are then laminated and used by the students during their center time. I help the teacher by correcting tests and putting stickers on their papers. I could go on and on. I love everything that I do. The work is so fulfilling and rewarding. • At the end of the day my teacher practically always thanks me for helping her and many times when I leave there is a chorus of voices saying, "Goodbye Grandma Burgher." • Before becoming a Foster Grandparent, I was bored with life, sleeping a lot, and even a little depressed. I really wanted and needed something to do with my time. Then I saw a newspaper article about the Foster Grandparent Program and I decided to check it out. Needless to say, I am not depressed or bored any more. The Foster Grandparent Program has been one of the most positive and rewarding experiences I have ever encountered. I love every aspect of it and it has been a blessing in my life. • If you are looking for something meaningful to do in your life, and you love children, why not consider being a Foster Grandparent? The children will be there for you and will give you unconditional love. You will get hugs galore. You will be there for the children and will be helping a teacher out and in so doing you will feel needed. There is camaraderie with other teachers and school personnel.
