SD officials reroute drivers from flooded roads
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Heavy rains and flooding have led to the partial closures of major thoroughfares in South Dakota, redirecting tourism and industry traffic. • A section of Interstate 29 between Sioux City, Iowa, and Vermillion, South Dakota, has been closed. Crews are working to build up a levee near Exit 4 on the highway to prevent some flooding. • Floodwaters have also blocked many roads between southeast South Dakota and Iowa. • The detour around I-29 sends southbound travelers along I-90 in Minnesota, I-35 through Iowa and back east on I-80. Northbound travelers would take the same highways in reverse order. • Travelers willing to leave the interstates have a shorter alternative using Nebraska's Outlaw Trail Scenic Byway. •
Canaries raffle raises money for tornado victims
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The Sioux Falls Canaries will hold a raffle at Thursday evening's baseball game to help raise money for people impacted by the Wessington Springs tornado. • Fans can buy tickets for $10 each for the chance to win an autographed team jersey, a suite rental for one night or a four-pack of tickets to five games of their choice. • Wednesday's tornado damaged or destroyed several dozen homes and businesses and injured at least one person. •
