10 years later, man sentenced for abusing girl, 7
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls man was sentenced to three years in prison Monday for molesting a 7-year-old girl at a Charles Mix County campground nearly a decade ago. • The Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/1kHP0Om ) David Leiferman, 66, was initially charged with four counts of sexual contact with a child last summer for a series of incidents that took place during fishing trips at the Platte Creek Johnson Campground near Platte Creek between 2004 and 2005. • The victim revealed the abuse to her mother several years after it took place. The child and her family had moved to Oregon by then. The authorities directed the mother to refer the case to Charles Mix County. • Leiferman was indicted after testimony to a grand jury from an ex-wife and the victim, who's now 17. •
Weather threat prompts Rounds to stay in Pierre
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Threats of severe weather have changed the election night plans for U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rounds. • Rounds campaign spokesman Mitch Krebs says the former governor will watch Tuesday night's election results in Pierre rather than Sioux Falls. • Rounds had started the day in Sioux Falls and was flying to Rapid City when a storm packing large hail prompted him to land in Pierre. • Secretary of State Jason Gant had earlier predicted 50 percent turnout and said he hopes weather doesn't have a negative effect on people coming out to the polls. • Rounds is running against state Sen. Larry Rhoden, state Rep. Stace Nelson, attorney and Army Reserves Maj. Jason Ravnsborg and physician Annette Bosworth in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Tim Johnson. •
