• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Paul Sukut has been named CEO and general manager at North Dakota-based Basin Electric Power Cooperative. • Sukut has been serving as interim CEO since January. He was previously the company's chief financial officer. • Basin Electric board president Wayne Peltier says Sukut did a good job handling the transition after Andy Serri resigned as CEO. • Sukut has been employed with Basin Electric since 1983. • Basin Electric is regional cooperative headquartered in Bismarck. It generates and transmits electricity to 137 member systems in nine states, including North and South Dakota. •

• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- The five South Dakota Republicans running for U.S. Senate meet Thursday evening in a debate that will be televised statewide. • South Dakota Public Broadcasting will carry it live on television and online starting at Thursday at 8 p.m. Central time. • It will be the second debate among former Gov. Mike Rounds, state lawmakers Larry Rhoden and Stace Nelson, attorney and Army Reserves Maj. Jason Ravnsborg (ROUNDS'-berg) and physician Annette Bosworth. • They're seeking the party's nomination in the June 3 primary for the seat being vacated by retiring Democratic U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson. • Sioux Falls business owner Rick Weiland is the lone Democratic candidate. • Former U.S. Sen. Larry Pressler, former state lawmaker Gordon Howie and Clayton Walker are the independents on the November ballot. •
