size hail fell in Fayette County, IA.
1896: An F5 (estimated) tornado struck the west side of Sherman, TX. There were 73 fatalities. A trunk lid was carried 35 miles.
1968: A huge Midwestern tornado outbreak included two F5's in Iowa resulting in 18 fatalities...most of them in Charles City. Also, a tornado touched down southwest of Anchorage, AK.
