Website connects people giving, looking for wood
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The state Agriculture Department has set up a website to connect South Dakotans wanting to remove trees on their property with people looking for wood. • It's called the Log Finder. • The agency says a lot of wood ends up landfills. And besides homeowners, some sawmills are looking for hardwoods. • The website address is http://sdda.sd.gov/conservation-forestry/biomass-utilization. •
NSU group Dominant 7 heading to trumpet conference
• ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -- A 14-piece trumpet and rhythm section group from Northern State University has been invited to perform at the International Trumpet Guild Conference later this month. • Dominant 7 will play in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, May 20-24. The conference features dozens of internationally renowned artists and composers and numerous college ensembles. • Dr. Grant Manhart, NSU professor of high brass and jazz studies, said the group was invited "due to its unique style, arrangements and performance ability." • Dominant 7 has performed three times since 2006 at ITG conferences in Glassboro, New Jersey; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Minneapolis, Minnesota. • The ITG is a nonprofit organization with 5,000 members, including amateur and professional trumpeters. This year marks the 39th annual conference. •
SD has put $56.2 million toward the state's bonds
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard says the state used $56.2 million of one-time funds to make a dent in the state's bonds. • The payoff was outlined by Daugaard in his budget address and in a piece of legislation that passed in the 2014 session with nearly unanimous support. The law that authorized the payments took effect immediately. • The state has prepaid $5 million of bonds and $8.4 million of interest. • An additional $42.8 million of state bonds will now be managed and the contract then dissolved through First National Bank of Sioux Falls. • The state's recent payments make up 16 percent of all outstanding bonds through the South Dakota Building Authority.
