teams often had to battle worse weather conditions "We have some concern that we don't have an equitable season," Krogstrand said. The change would go into effect for the 2015-16 season with the tournament June 6 and 7. "Something needs to be changed," said board member Rick Weber. "It's not fair right now in Flandreau for our girls' and boys' golf." Trask predicted that moving the tournament after the Memorial Day weekend wouldn't ensure good weather. "It will rain one side or the other of the 10th of June," Trask said. Krogstrand said the tournament may have to adjust to earlier start times so that golf course managers can accommodate their regular customers. The rule change passed on a 5-1 vote with Trask dissenting.
changed the season dates for soccer. Under the new rule the sport's postseason gets an overhaul with a quarterfinal on a Tuesday on the 14th week of the season followed by semifinals and finals on the next two Saturdays. Krogstrand said the new plan allows for a one-day tournament final. The rule change passed on a 5-1 vote with Trask dissenting.
discussed but did not pass a proposed rule to eliminate ties in soccer. The new rule would have allowed regular season games to be played with the same tie-breaking formula that's used in the state tournament. In the tournament, a tie is settled by the teams continuing to play two 10-minute periods. If the game is still tied it will be decided by penalty kicks. Krogstrand said some soccer coaches were concerned that tournament games that ended in a tie were continued in a way that was unfamiliar to players. "Now we're deciding our most important game with a procedure we haven't done all year," Krogstad said, noting that soccer coaches were of the opinion that "we wouldn't walk off a basketball court with a tie game." Athletic directors at the meeting spoke against the change, saying that girls' soccer matches are often followed by boys' soccer matches. If either game, or both, ends in a tie, the contest could drag on late into the night. Board members failed to make a motion to accept the rule change, advising Krogstrand to find another, less time-consuming, alternative for handling tie games. -30-
