2 national parks in SD to increase tour fees

• CUSTER, S.D. (AP) -- Visitors will have to pay more to tour the two National Park Service caves in the Black Hills starting April 30.
• The service on Wednesday announced fee increases for tours at Jewel Cave National Monument and Wind Cave National Park.
• Rates for Jewel Cave's scenic and historic lantern tours will increase from $8 to $12 for adults and from $4 to $8 for children ages 6-16. The wild caving tour will cost $31, up from $27.
• Various tours at Wind Cave will see fee hikes. The natural entrance, fairgrounds, and candlelight tours will increase from $9 to $12 for adults and from $4.50 to $6 for children ages 6-16.
• Park Superintendent Vidal Davila says the fees fund facility upgrades. He says the increases were discussed at public meetings.

School of Mines names new athletic director

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has named its new athletic director.
• The school on Wednesday announced the appointment of Joel Lueken.
• Lueken is the associate athletic director for William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. He will start his tenure at the school in Rapid City on June 2.
• Lueken will fill the position vacated by Dick Kaiser who left for Northwestern Oklahoma State University in July.
• The School of Mines is in its first year as full member of the NCAA Division II. The school has announced that it will join the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
• Lueken has been at William Jewell since 2006 and became the college's associate athletic director in 2009.

Rhoden raises just under $16K during quarter

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Larry Rhoden raised just shy of $16,000 during the first three months of 2014.
• Rhoden's latest Federal Election Commission filing shows a little more than $78,000 in his campaign coffers at the end of the quarter, offset by slightly less than $7,000 in debt.
