Man sentenced in Eagle Butte stabbing death
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison in the stabbing death of an Eagle Butte man. • U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Jared Slader has been sentenced to four years and three months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. • A federal grand jury indicted Slader on a second-degree murder charge in September. The Eagle Butte man pleaded guilty to a voluntary manslaughter charge in January. • Witnesses told authorities they saw Slader fight with Lester Peneaux outside the Golden Rule Bar in the early morning hours of Aug. 31. • Documents show Peneaux died during surgery at Rapid City Regional Hospital several hours after the fight. •
SDSU to host purebread Hampshire sheep sale
• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota State University will host its fourth annual purebred Hampshire sheep sale on Saturday, May 3. • The SDSU Hampshire sheep flock was established in 1898. • Twenty-five purebred Hampshire lambs consisting of five rams and 20 ewe lambs will be sold at the SDSU Sheep Unit facilities in Brookings. • The sheep are selected from the fall and spring born lamb crop and they'll be sold as individual lots using a silent auction-board format. • The barn will open at 10 a.m. on sale day for viewing and registration. Bidding is 11 a.m. to noon. •
