• Residents and business can continue to drop off yard waste and branches at no charge at the Rapid City landfill. The landfill is opened from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Groups host water conference in Rapid City

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Scientists, students and others interested in water will gather in Rapid City April 9 for the 12th annual Western South Dakota Hydrology Meeting.
• Attendees will exchange ideas, discuss mutual issues and present the results of studies. Sessions include presentations about in-situ mining, water-resources management, ecosystems, climate, groundwater and erosion.
• The conference is organized by the U.S. Geological Survey, the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the South Dakota Engineering Society, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and the West Dakota Water Development District.
• The conference runs from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on April 9 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
• The sessions are free and open to the public and students. Professional registration fees are $100. Lunch is optional for $20.

Patrol: 6 had no seat belt on in Colorado crash

• FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Only the driver was wearing a seat belt when a sport-utility vehicle crashed in northern Colorado, injuring five students and two adults from a South Dakota school, the Colorado State Patrol said Wednesday.
• The driver was Kyle Henderson, 26, of Box Elder, S.D., state trooper Nate Reid said.
• The other victims' names haven't been released, but Reid said they were three 13-year-old girls, two 14-year-old girls and a 26-year-old woman.
• All seven were hospitalized. KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, S.D., reported one adult had been released from the hospital and two students were expected to be released within a few days.
• The five were students and teachers at a McLaughlin, S.D., school, according to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, which straddles the border of North and
