More requirements in SD law for amusement rides
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has authorized a new law governing amusement rides. • The policy requires operators of such rides to get certified inspections yearly and conduct a daily review of equipment on their own. They have always been required to have insurance. • Riders also are charged with personal responsibility in the law and are expected not to enter a ride if intoxicated, for example. • Sen. Al Novstrup is president of Thunder Road attractions, a Dakotas chain of family fun parks. He was a co-sponsor of the measure. He said in a February hearing on the bill that the industry supports the policy change. • Rides in 44 other states are similarly regulated. • The changes will take effect in July. •
