SD lawmakers looking at revenue projections
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Legislature's budget-writing committee is deciding how much money the state will have to spend in the budget year that begins July 1. • State economists have predicted that tax collections won't bring in as much money as was projected when Gov. Dennis Daugaard proposed his state budget in December. • The governor's budget office predicts that ongoing general revenue for the current year will be about $8.4 million below earlier projections for the current year and about $6 million lower than expected for the next budget year. The Legislature's budget staff expects revenue will fall short of earlier projections by about $6 million this year and $4 million next year. • The Legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee will use the revenue estimates to put together a state budget. •
