• The Groton boys shot 59 percent from the field and 78 percent from the line to eliminate Milbank Area in the first round of the Region 1A Tournament being played in Milbank.
• Reilly Ell was three of six in three-pointers and eight of 12 in two-pointers as he led all scorers with 20 points. Wyatt Lone and Kyler Ell each had nine, Mason Madsen and Kasey Kurtz each had eight, Chance Strom added five, Wyatt Larson four and Lucas Sternhagen had two points.
• Groton made 26 of 47 field goals while Milbank was 10 of 36 for 28 percent. Groton had 12 team fouls which allowed Milbank to make 10 of 15 free throws for 67 percent. Milbank had eight team fouls which allowed Groton to make seven of nine free throws.
• Groton controlled the boards, 25-19, with Madsen and Reilly Ell each having six for Groton and Dylan Fox had nine for Milbank. Groton had seven turnovers with three being steals. Milbank had 14 turnovers with five of them being steals--three by Lone and two by Madsen.
• Groton had blocked the ball five times while Milbank had one block. Lone and Madsen each had two and Reilly Ell had one. Groton had 12 assists with Kurtz having six and Milbank had four assists.
• Scoring for Milbank had Dylan Fox with 12, Brandon Cummins nine, Jacob Berg five, Ryan Schreurs four and Jacob Jackson added two points.
• In the other first round games, Sisseton defeated Britton-Hecla, 71-44, and Tiospa Zina defeated Webster, 57-48.
• Thursday's games feature Aberdeen Roncalli taking on Tiospa Zina at 6 p.m. followed by the Groton Area vs. Sisseton match-up.

The Groton Fire Department was called to a garage fire early Tuesday morning at the Jared Poppen residence  at 11 N 5th St. The inside of the garage was gutted and a pickup was burned as well.
