Election slated for Groton
• An election will be held in Groton for mayor and for councilmen in two of the three wards. • In Ward 1, David Blackmun, Jr., turned in his petition. Clare Brotherton is the incumbent and did not take out a petition. • In Ward 2, David McGannon and Ron Belden will be running for the two-year term. McGannon is the appointed incumbent, who replaced Hanlon on the council after Hanlon was appointed mayor. • In Ward 3, Gary Heitmann and Burt Glover will be running for the two-year term. Heitmann is the incumbent. • And for mayor, Scott Hanlon and Eddy Nehls will be running for a two-year term. Hanlon is the appointed mayor after the death of Mayor Roy Olson, who was serving a three-year term. There are two years left in that term. • As far as the school is concerned, we have not heard if there is an election. The last word is that Steve Smith had turned in his petition and Joy Voss was not going to take out a petition. No one else had taken out a petition. •
