Britton-Hecla girls upset Groton
• It was a battle to the end, but Groton's 17 percent field goal shooting was the demise of the Lady Tigers as Britton-Hecla edged Groton, 39-36. Clark-Willow Lake defeated Roncalli to win the Northeast Conference Title this year. • Courtney Kurtz led the Tigers with 20 points followed by Carly Wheeting with nine, Camille Sippel had three and Kylie Hawkins and Ashley Gibbs each had two points. • Emily Bremmon and Ashley Fosness led the Braves with 10 points each followed by Emma Bennett with seven, Toni Symens and Mallori Rabenberg each had six. • Groton made 17 percent of its field goals, making 10 of 56 shots while the Braves made 40 percent, making 14 of 35. • Groton had more rebounds, 28-25, with Ashley Gibbs having seven, Sippel six and Hawkins and Kurtz each having five for Groton and Bremmon and Symens each had seven for Britton-Hecla. • Groton had nine turnovers, 10 steals with Gibbs having three, six assists with Hawkins having two and 17 team fouls. • Britton-Hecla had 15 turnovers, 10 steals, 13 assists and 14 team fouls. • Groton made 12 of 14 free throws while Britton-Hecla made seven of 11. • Groton won the junior varsity game, 36-14. Audrey Wanner led Groton with 12 points followed by Katie Koehler and Maryn Howard with nine each, Marlee Jones had four and Rachel Blackmun added two points. • More details and photos to come.
